The Open Door is a bi-monthly publication written by inmates for inmates, their families, and friends. Newsletter submissions are reviewed and edited by Open Door Ministry board members. The first edition was published in January 2003.
It is designed to allow inmates a place where they can openly express their Christian faith through their artwork, poetry, Bible studies, and other writings. It allows them a place to take a stand for their faith and their beliefs, as well as witness to families and friends. What they want to say is that they have indeed changed. They want to show they are on a new pathway of renewal and that change has come, not because of human effort, but because of their new relationship with God, His Son, Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. The Open Door gives them a place to say these things and verifies for them that they are a part of something much bigger; that they can begin a new life even amidst the reality of the sentence they are serving.
All editions are available here. The newsletters are PDF files, which require software such as Adobe Reader.
